Before children and jobs and life, or in spite of children and jobs and life, or because of children and jobs and life, or inspired by children and jobs and life, the founding fathers of Fútbol y Football conjured a dream, developed over time, of creating an annual event that celebrates the love and rivalry of Premier League Football with the love and rivalry of College Football.  It began small, just a couple guys, some beer, a tv, some food.  Some Chelsea and Tottenham in the morning, some West Virgnia in the afternoon.  But a spark, a stunning idea, blossoms and builds.  Word of mouth and invitation only, the annual gathering for soccer, football, beer and pork grew.  Why?  Because people love to get drunk, and people love pork, and people love soccer, and people love football.  

 

It's simple at its most basic.  People + TV + Food + Alcohol = Fun.  But the devil is in the details (Or the Mourhino is in the details).  It's the nuance that makes Fútbol y Football.  Its about understanding the time of year.  Mid-Fall is the high time for Pumpkin Beer and Octoberfest, no one's EPL team is so far down the table that life ceases to exist (except maybe Everton), no one's football team has yet won another BCS Championship (OSU), and no one cares how many pork-centric foodstuffs they eat because summer is done and over.  It is about committing to multiple games with multiple televisions, its about resisting the urge to drink some whiskey with the new guy at 8:30AM because you know you have another ten hours to go.  Its about that crest to the left being the most beautiful thing you've ever seen.  

 

Generally, Fútbol y Football kicksoff on the third Saturday of October.  But flexibility is key to the day, so when your buddy has to coach his kid's U7 girls soccer team, and your other buddy is off at his wedding, and your other buddy has to work, feel free to find the day that works for you.  This year Fútbol y Football will be celebrated on November 7.  

 

Here's how you do it.  Here's the blueprint.  Here's the starting point.  Where you take it is up to you.

With all great things that no one cares to recognize or appreciate, this too began long ago in the far away land of West Virginia.  Fate dropped together a bunch of guys, that turned their back on the classic teenage obsession of getting laid and instead embraced soccer.  Scattered throughout the country for a couple years, eventually they all circled back to someplace, around or about Baltimore, Maryland (another place that is really great but people fail to appreciate).  Amongst the bunch was a Hotspur, a Red Devil and a Blue.  Being from West Virgnia, all were WVU fans.  It was not the evolution of Newtonian physics, but a couple good ideas fell into place and slowly the idea came together.  Why not start drinking beer at 7:30AM and watch soccer...and then keep drinking beer and watch WVU.  But as life has a way of bringing together people at the right time, they began to find others that also liked getting drunk in the morning and also had EPL clubs.  Turns out those people also liked other college football teams.

 

Sometime around 2013, Fútbol y Football embraced pork as the official footstuff of the day.  All dishes, breakfast, snacks, lunch, snacks, dinner were strongly encouraged to highlight pig in its multitude of forms.  And now it is a thing.  A big thing.  All because a couple guys decided long ago that eating too much, drinking too much, and watching sports all day is awesome, and it should have its own standing holiday.  Cheers.
